The Beginnings of an Idea

Aloha,

Step into my little nook of the internet, where I have the joy of sharing my love for knowledge and the remedies that mean so much to me. Before I became known as "Delynna Jade," I was simply Delynna, a child of O'ahu, born and raised on the Windward Side. My family made the journey from Asia to America in the late 80’s, planting their roots on
the islands. I entered this world in the late 90’s, embraced by a multi-generational household where great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, and children all lived under one roof—a beautiful norm in the islands. My grandmother spoke to me in a melody of three languages, shaping a home that felt neither fully “American” nor distinctly “Asian,” but rather a vibrant blend somewhere in between.

My upbringing was steeped in the rich traditions of Malaysia, alongside the diverse cultures that make up Hawaii—Japanese, Filipino, Hawaiian, and Chinese, to name a few. I remember the nuances of parenting that seemed so natural—feeding infants Chuk instead of baby food, the ritual of shaving newborns’ hair to ensure strength, and the unspoken rule against calling a newborn “cute.” Cloth diapers were the norm, and I recall the sight of naked babies racing along the beach, a warmth that felt uniquely mine. As I grew into adulthood and became a mother myself, I discovered just how different these customs were from what many considered typical.
Once I graduated high school, I ventured to California to pursue a Bachelor's degree. Not long after, I said "I do," and we soon found ourselves embarking on a military journey to South Korea. Those three years were transformative, welcoming my first son into the world. The experience of raising a child outside of America shifted my entire perspective on parenting. I embraced the significance of a baby's first 100 days—“Baek-il”—and was amazed by the variety of baby items that existed there, so different from those in American stores. In South Korea, it was heartwarming to see restaurant owners take your baby in their arms, allowing you a moment's peace to enjoy your meal without a second thought.
Returning to California after those three years, life surprised me once more as I discovered I was pregnant with my second son. With the wisdom gained from raising my first child, I had my own set of preferences regarding baby products. Yet, as I soon learned, each baby is a world unto themselves, and my beloved essentials for both of my boys boiled down to just a few cherished items.
I longed for pouches that didn't clink and clatter with unrealistic straps, for a single item capable of fulfilling multiple roles without being cumbersome. I dreamed of compact designs, featuring playful aesthetics that could endure long after my little ones outgrew their baby days. These desires sparked the birth of Delynna Jade.
I hope these creations bring you as much joy as I found in bringing them to life. Countless hours, revisions, and more samples than I could keep track of culminated in this labor of love, a tangible ode to my culture and the lessons that have shaped my journey.
